Corded Blinds Safety Inspections
Securing loose cords to protect young lives and ensure your rental properties corded window coverings meet the Victorian minimum safety standard.

Corded Window Coverings
and the Rental Minimum Standards
As per Consumer Affairs Victoria's Rental Minimum Standards, from 1 December 2025, all corded internal window coverings, such as blinds and curtains, must have an anchor installed to secure the cords and prevent them forming loops. Loose, looped, or dangling cords on blinds and curtains pose a severe strangulation hazard to young children. Rental providers and property managers cannot legally advertise, lease, or re-lease a property that fails to secure these loops.
At Potenza Electrical Compliance, we eliminate this risk for your young family members, and liability for your agency. We perform meticulous inspections on all window furnishings across the property to guarantee complete peace of mind and full legal protection.

*Installation & Property Care Notices
To ensure full compliance with Victoria's strict child-safety minimum standards, certain physical modifications may be required on-site. Please note the following guidelines regarding window coverings:
-
Hardware Fastening: To securely anchor loose loops, safety clips and cleats must be mechanically fastened (screwed) directly into window or door frames where necessary.
-
Operational Range Adjustments: In instances where cords must be shortened or joined to remove strangulation hazards, the maximum operational travel or lifting range of the blind may be slightly reduced.
-
Structural Limitations (e.g., Some sliding doors): Where structural limitations prevent a chain clip from being securely fastened (such as certain slimline aluminium sliding door frames), we cannot install an anchor. In these specific scenarios, we will officially recommend that the cords be professionally shortened by a window furnishing specialist to achieve compliance.
